What’s Your Ideal Lunch Date?

george_smallWith winter coming on, I find myself thinking more and more about the fact that it’s going to be months before I can enjoy eating outside again.  I’m already looking forward to the first “unseasonably” warm day of Spring, when local cafés open their patios for the flock of not-so-hungry-but-craving-summer crowd (like me).

It’s no surprise, then, that my ideal lunch date is an outdoor affair.

Now what I would really love, the thought that inspired this entire topic, is a lunch date at Sharky’s on the Pier in Venice, Florida with the entire Girl Talk Thursday crew and our families.  I went there once a few years ago, and the beauty of the place still lingers in my mind.  I mean, there we are, fresh from Canada in May (which is basically “winter, just a little tiny bit warmer”), sitting in gorgeous weather, on a white beach, a long pier jutting out into the aquamarine-hued ocean.  I felt like I was on the most exotic vacation in the entire world… it was that picturesque and idyllic.

We ladies would each have a fruity, girly drink (maybe a pitcher of margaritas?) (to share, not individually… it is, after all, lunchtime, not girls’ night out) (yet).  We would send the men and children away to go play on the beach, or at the very least, sit at another table.   I would love to meet everyone’s husbands and children, but I’d also love to get our gossip on!  There are so many awesome things about this scenario: the smiles, the laughter, the oversharing, the LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I like to eat light and fresh for lunch (okay, all meals, but especially lunch), so it’s very likely I’d order the same thing I did last time, an antipasto-esque salad topped with a tuna steak grilled to medium-rare.  If you’ve never tried tuna steak because you hate the canned stuff, they are entirely different creatures.  I hate tuna in a can, but I could eat fresh tuna steak every day until the end of my life.

My ideal lunch has everything going for it: great location, delicious food, and perfect company.

How about yours?
